This is Part 1 of a two-part message on the mind — this sermon names the problem, and Part 2, Renewing of the Mind, gives the practical steps to move forward.
Fr. Jaswant Rana opens with a warning: worldliness is a "sweet poison" that quietly ruins spiritual growth, and it starts in the mind before it ever shows up in action. Using Simon the Sorcerer's story in Acts 8, he shows how unexamined thoughts can grow into a genuine bondage — a "gall of bitterness" that keeps a believer stuck.
Tracing the same pattern back to Eve's deception in Genesis 3, and naming the three pillars of worldliness from 1 John 2:16 — the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life — the message calls for real self-examination, using 2 Corinthians 10:4–5's language of spiritual weapons that "cast down imaginations."
The turning point comes through Hannah's example in 1 Samuel 1 — praying silently, in her heart, in the middle of deep distress. It's offered as proof that freedom doesn't require a dramatic act, only an honest one.
